(Press Release)Antigua-Thursday evening the 19th, April, marks an important milestone in history of insurance in Antigua. In an event attended by GK representatives, Government officials, Senators, media partners, business owners, friends and colleagues at the Trade Winds Hotel, all were honored to witness the momentous occasion.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Esther Scotland (CEO of Star Insurance Agency), welcomed guests and stated clearly what she desires to accomplish:
“As our valued customers, you have told us that you are interested in having greater control over your finances, the need for simpler insurance options, and most importantly an insurance company that understands you and caters to your peace of mind. Our aim is to respond to you on all counts by ensuring that we provide you with ‘exceptional service’ and options tailored to meet your specific/needs”.
Ms Scotland also pointed out that “addressing this sectors’ need is for us is a key priority, and we have invested tremendous time in training and development of our staff to better serve you”.
For the the remainder of her speech she reminded the audience of the importance of insurance:
“There is always a fear of sudden loss, a fire, storms, more recently, category 5 hurricanes. The memories and experiences of Irma and Maria are still fresh on our minds. (Irma ravaged Barbuda and Maria which almost flattened the island of Dominica). There was tremendous loss of lives and property, and many persons are still dealing with the challenges of the recovery process and getting their lives back to at state of normalcy.
Throughout the Caribbean, there have been reports of persons and businesses who were either not insured or under insured. In all these cases, it becomes extremely difficult to bear the loss.
Insurance therefore provides a cover against any sudden loss; hence need to ensure that we are always prepared and adequately covered, by having the right insurance Partner.
I would like to further reiterate that having insurance protects you and your assets from the financial risk of something going wrong. Basically, what this means is that if something unexpected happens, once covered by your policy, you won’t have to pay the full cost of a loss.
It is against this background, that today I stand before you to stress the importance of having a solid strong, experienced and reliable insurance partner as we do in the form of GK Insurance EC.”
She also went on the recount her personal experience. “Having experienced Maria, where both my roofs were completely destroyed by this catastrophic hurricane, there was a sense of peace knowing that I was adequately covered and my roofs wood be quickly restored.”
In her closing remarks she reiterated her commitment: “Star insurance is therefore privileged, humbled and honored to celebrate this partnership as we look to penetrate the Antigua Market. We want our customers to know that we are an insurance company they can trust, that they are in safe hands and we are here to stay…because we care!
The Assistant General manager, GK Insurance EC, Mrs Tammara Glaves-Hucey also gave her remarks. In her opening remarks she talked about her excitement and her team’s excitement to “forge a relationship with our friends in Antigua as we seek to provide insurance solutions that meet our customers needs”.
She also went on to say that the parent company’s mission is to expand and “take world class financial services to our region, GK Insurance EC will continue to commence operations in other Caribbean Islands in the very future.”
She also made emphasis of two important commitments through the partnership with Star Insurance Agency:
- Our clients know they are with a company that they can trust and that their insurance matters are in good hands and with their best interests
- Our partners know they are aligned with an innovative company willing to work closely with them to provide our mutual clients with an amazing insurance experience.
Some brief remarks were also made by Hon. Dean Jonas (Minister for Education, Science, Technology and Barbuda affairs). He too reiterated the need for people to get their property insured. He claims that the rebuilding process in Barbuda has been delayed in part because of the many homes that damaged from deadly Category 5 hurricane Irma were not insured. As a result, the government has had the burden on repairing and rebuilding many damaged houses.
Star Insurance Agency is located at suite #1 Redcliffe Street, St Johns, Antigua
